Starting Your Career? Know These Things Before Starting

This guide from Bolo Haq explains Starting Your Career.  Earlier I also used to think that starting a career could be very easy and exciting. But getting started in a career is an exciting as well as confusing phase of our life. After completing my studies, when I applied for Job for the first time. I often felt that my career would be set automatically as soon as I got my degree.

But In practical life, some things are not that simple as we think. Like job searching, interviews, workplace environment, salary, communication and career growth, we understand many things after experience. I wish I had known some important things before starting my career. Then I might have felt more confident in my career decisions.

If you are also about to start your professional life, then these career tips can help you in better preparation.

Are skill and degree both important?

I know, a degree gives you education and basic knowledge, but practical skills are also very important for career success.

For example, if you have a degree in marketing, then knowledge from books alone is not enough, you should also learn skills like social media marketing, content writing, communication, basic graphic design or digital marketing.

That is why it is very important to work on your professional skills along with your degree. Like, Online courses, internships, freelance projects and practical work can give you real world experience.

Does my first Job have to be perfect?

I always thought that in the beginning of my career I will get a perfect Job, with a good Salary, at perfect workplace and a role of my choice.

But in reality, the purpose of first job is not just to earn money, it is an important stage of career experience and learning for you.

Your first job may not be like your dream job but there you can learn communication, teamwork, time management and professional responsibilities.

That is why it is better that you do not look at your first job only from the point of view of salary. Also see what you get a chance to learn and grow there.

Why should i avoid comparing my career with others?

I understand that while starting a career, comparison is very common. Your friend gets a good job with a good salary, and sometimes someone starts his own business. At that point, we feel that we are left behind.

But we forget that every person’s career is different, some get opportunities quickly while others take some time to understand their direction. Instead of comparing our journey with the careers of others, we should focus on our skills and progress. You just have to see what you are doing better today than yesterday.

How can i improve my communication skills?

It is very important to have good communication skills in almost every career. How you talk, how your words are understood, and how well you listen all matter in professional life. Whether you are talking to the manager, messaging a client or giving a job interview, your communication makes a lot of difference.

If you have to talk to a manager, message a client, or give a job interview, be clear. Strong communication skills also build your confidence.

If your English is not strong, then do daily practice. Read simple English articles, try to write professional emails, or learn common workplace phrases. Communication is such a career skill which can give you benefit in almost every field.

Is it important to accept every job opportunity?

Initially, I often thought that I should accept whatever job opportunity came my way, but not every opportunity was suitable for my career goals, which was my big mistake.

I have learned from my experience that before accepting any salary, it is important to consider the working hours, responsibility and workplace environment. I always understand that it is not necessary to accept every opportunity. therefore, i prefer to maintain a healthy boundary in professional life.

Do i need to Keep learning for career growth?

Your learning does not end even after you start your career. Actually practical learning often makes more sense once you start. Nowadays, technology tools and workplace trends are changing very fast, that is why it is important to keep learning new skills and tools related to your field. I also had this experience. When I used to focus on regular learning, it seemed easier to understand the new changes and keep my skills updated.

That is why I set a small learning goal for every week and month. Gradually, these small goals improve my skills and help me in my field. For me, online Courses, tutorial books, and practical projects helped in my career development. It becomes very easy for someone who is constantly learning to explore future opportunities.

Is making mistakes in career normal?

It is absolutely normal to make mistakes at the beginning of your career. Everyone makes a mistake sometimes, whether it is sending an email, completing a task or managing a deadline. But for me, the most important thing is how we handle the mistake.

Instead of trying to hide the mistake, try to understand it and see where I need to improve. Next time, be a little more careful to avoid repeating this mistake. In the end, not every mistake is a failure. Sometimes it is this mistake that teaches me those valuable lessons.

What should i focus on more salary or career growth?

Salary is obviously an important factor while choosing but in the starting phase of career, making only salary the base of decision is not always useful. If a job gives you a low salary but gives you strong skills, practical experience, mentorship and a chance for career growth, then these factors should also be considered.

This does not mean that you should ignore the salary, just compare the learning opportunities, work environment and professional growth along with the salary.

Why should you start financial planning when starting your career?

It often happens that after receiving the first salary, shopping, eating out and unnecessary spending seem tempting. But at the beginning of our career, developing the habit of financial planning can be very useful for us. I keep a simple record of my income and expenses so that I know where the money is going, and later I check my expenses every month and try to reduce unnecessary expenses.

Also, when i make a simple monthly budget and be as precise as possible. even small savings add up over time and can go a long way in handling financial pressure.

Is changing my career a failure?

Sometimes, after starting a job, we realize that the field we had chosen is not suitable for us. In such a situation, changing career is not a failure. instead, You can move on to a different field by learning a new skill.

Remember, career does not always run in a straight line. It may involve change, experiment and new opportunities. If you want to change the field, then first try to understand the required skills of the field. and when you understand the market, then plan your transition step by step.

Why is it important to build Your Career Step by Step?

For me, making a career is not just about any achievement. With time, I understood that there is a step by step process of career. In this, first of all, it is important to understand yourself, improve your skills, gain experience and prepare for the future. Every step gives an opportunity to learn something new and give a better direction to your career.

Additionally, Focus on practical skills along with degree. Improve communication skills. Learn from mistakes and reduce comparison with others. Focus only on your financial planning and professional networking.

However the important thing is , Give time to your career growth. Career is not a race , learn on your pace, Understand the opportunities.  and try to get something valuable from every experience.
